Kate is the best
Kate is the BEST, and I want to share my story because I feel that it highlights who she is as a college counselor and as a person.
After working with three different counselors over the course of three years, I know that Kate was the one I should have been with all along. My second semester of freshman year at Tufts University, I decided that I wanted to try and transfer out. Kate was working with my younger brother at the time.
I cannot stress how lucky I was to have Kate. She helped me come up with a list of new schools, write my personal statement and supplements, fill out my Common App, and keep me on track. I would keep her updated on what I had worked on that day, and she would go online and give me feedback right away. That year I got into Emory, but decided to stay at Tufts.
Fast forward to my first semester of sophomore year and I was miserable. Out of the blue, I texted Kate, “So is it too late to apply to the University of Miami?” Two seconds later, I got a call from her. We spent an hour talking about why I wanted to transfer, why I wanted to go back home to Miami, and what the plan would be considering the deadline had already passed. The plan for the next day was that I was to fill out all the necessary forms and send them while she called the office of admission to find out if the deadline was truly the deadline. That night, she called me to tell me that I had four days until the true deadline.
Right away, we got started on revising my personal statement from last year. I edited the essay on a shared doc while we talked on the phone and bounced ideas off of each other until it was perfect. Kate became like my second mom. I called her all the time with questions about school, what to submit, or even just to tell her that I was stressed. She handled my craziness and always helped me in any way that she could, whether that was going over my application multiple times, finding me the email addresses of UMiami transfer advisors who could answer my questions or finding out more about specific programs. I applied to the University of Miami in four days, and when I got my acceptance letter, she was the first person I called.
Kate wants the best for her kids. She is hardworking and persistent. She is skilled in writing and in helping people develop their ideas. My personal statement was beautifully written and sounded like me because it was me. It said everything I wanted it to, and she made it come to fruition. She knows so much about the college application process that I was able to relax and just let her guide me through it. She is so detailed and really taught me how to dig in and do the research I needed to do on specific programs and majors. Kate is the most amazing college counselor and one of the kindest, most caring people I’ve met in my twenty years of life. I hope you get the chance to meet her and work with her!
